SINGAPORE – It was an early Christmas present for two families at Thomson Medical Centre. Both welcomed baby girls into the world by natural birth – Singapore’s first Christmas babies this year.

Kayley Foong was first at the stroke of midnight yesterday (Dec 25). Her arrival caught her parents by surprise as their gynaecologist was expecting a delivery on Jan 17 next year.

“The date does not matter. What’s important is that the baby is healthy, and happy,” said her father, Mr Foong. “I am thankful to my wife for giving me such a pretty and lovely baby, and I hope that my baby will grow up to be happy, healthy and for her to have her own accomplishments.”

Coming in a minute later was Wylene Wong, at 12.01am. Her parents had hoped she would share the same birthday with her elder sister, three-year-old Wenise, on Dec 27. But Wylene couldn’t wait, forcing her mother to be admitted to hospital at 9.30pm on Wednesday.

“She came to us on this very special day. I’m so happy to have her with us,” said Ms Verrone Phua, Wylene’s mother. “All I wish is that she’s a healthy and happy baby.” CHANNEL NEWSASIA
