Civil Defence handbook may be updated with new advisories

SINGAPORE — The next edition of the Civil Defence Emergency Handbook may include advisories that deal with situations where there are large crowds, or where there is unruly behaviour.

SINGAPORE — The next edition of the Civil Defence Emergency Handbook may include advisories that deal with situations where there are large crowds, or where there is unruly behaviour.

Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean said this in a written reply to a Parliamentary question by Nominated Member of Parliament Tan Su Shan, who had asked if the handbook will be updated to include response recommendations to large crowds turning unruly or destructive.

Mr Teo, who is also Minister for Home Affairs, said the Singapore Civil Defence Force and the Singapore Police Force will look into this suggestion with a view to include appropriate advisories in the next edition of the handbook.

The handbook, now in its seventh edition, contains advisories that are related to emergency preparedness and national emergencies, and covers topics such as first aid, fire safety, peacetime and war-time emergencies, and terrorist threats. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
