SINGAPORE — Some residents living near Clementi, Commonwealth and Queenstown MRT stations will enjoy direct lift access to the stations, said the Land Transport Authority today (July 31).
At Clementi MRT station, residents at HDB blocks 326 and 327 will have a lift at their the ground level of their HDB block. They can take this lift down to the street level, or up to the MRT concourse.
All three stations will have other similar improvements, such as an extended concourse at the other end of the station, additional fare gates, as well as sheltered linkways connecting directly to nearby HDB blocks.
LTA said this will increase capacity and alleviate congestion especially during the morning and evening peak periods and provide better convenience.
Works at the three stations are in progress and will be completed by the middle of next year.
Currently, works are done very close to existing tracks and nearby HDB blocks so LTA said the challenge is in minimising disruption to train operations. The extended concourse will also require the hacking of the wall at the back of the station.
