SINGAPORE — Evening rush-hour commuters were hit by further train delays on the North-South Line (NSL) and parts of the East-West Line (EWL) on Wednesday (Nov 15), following delays in the morning caused by a collision between two SMRT trains at Joo Koon station, and a signalling fault on the Circle Line.

SMRT told commuters around 6.30pm to brace for delays of up to 40 minutes on the NSL as a result of fewer trains on the tracks. The rail operator also advised commuters to “seek alternative transport”, adding that bridging bus services, which had been available from Bishan to Yishun (one way), as well as regular bus services between both stations are available.

Commuters took to social media on Wednesday evening to complain about packed and slow moving trains.

Twitter user nizaMaster wrote that he had been standing in a packed train from Raffles Place to Ang Mo Kio, adding that the train was stalled at every station for an average of five to seven minutes.

Another user, dark_intensity wrote on Twitter saying that it took an hour for her train to travel the six stations between City Hall and Toa Payoh.

Commuters on the far western end of the EWL also experienced delays, following Wednesday morning's collision between two trains.

SMRT shut down services between between Boon Lay and Tuas Link stations for about two hours on Wednesday afternoon to allow the two trains to leave Joo Koon station. Regular services resumed at 5.15pm, but as the trains were travelling slower, SMRT advised commuters to expect delays of up to 10 minutes on that section of the EWL.

The Circle Line was also hit by a separate signalling fault on Wednesday morning, which caused trains to move slower between Botanic Gardens and Haw Par Villa. It took about two hours to clear the fault.
