SINGAPORE — The Public Prosecutor today (Dec 8) filed a criminal reference arising from its dismissed appeal to seek a jail term for former National Parks Board assistant director Bernard Lim Yong Soon.
Lim was fined S$5,000 for lying to auditors from the Ministry of National Development over a deal worth S$57,200 to buy 26 Brompton bicycles.
In the criminal reference, Public Prosecutor and Attorney-General VK Rajah asked about the threshold to be crossed in order for a custodial sentence to be imposed for providing false information to mislead inquiries into matters on public sector governance. He also asked if the presence of mitigating factors could justify a non-custodial sentence being imposed.
The prosecution had sought a jail term of three to four months for Lim, but its appeal against Lim’s sentence was dismissed by the High Court in November.
