Disability support agency eyes bigger home in 2015

SINGAPORE — SG Enable will have an “expanded role” in making a bigger push for the employment of persons with disabilities at a new 30,000 sq m facility in a couple of years, it was announced today (Nov 8).

SINGAPORE — SG Enable will have an “expanded role” in making a bigger push for the employment of persons with disabilities at a new 30,000 sq m facility in a couple of years, it was announced today (Nov 8).

Formed in July, the agency promotes an inclusive society through providing support to persons with disabilities. By 2015, it will operate a new facility at Redhill that will include an information and referral centre on services and schemes for persons with disabilities, a career centre offering vocational assessment and job placement and support services, and facilities for courses and on-the-job training.

This is meant to give the agency’s clients greater convenience in accessing information, resources and services.

SG Enable will also make improvements in three key areas — systematic planning and engagement, integrated employment facilitation services (for persons with disabilities and employers) and sector capability in serving its clients.

The interest in the use of the site by the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) was first made known in a tender document.

On Oct 21, the ministry asked for the valuation of 141 Redhill Road “to enable MSF to issue tenancy to eligible agencies or voluntary welfare organisations for a period of three years”.
