SINGAPORE — Donations poured in on a bigger scale over the National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre’s (NVPC) platforms last year, with the amount collected rising by 46 per cent from the previous year.

In all, the NVPC collected S$19 million last year over its Giving.sg portal and the former SG Gives portal. There was also a 14 per cent rise in the number of unique donors registered.

In a media release yesterday, the NVPC said donations again peaked towards the end of the year, with 38 per cent of the annual amount collected in December. The council also cited the inaugural launch of #GivingWeek last year as a reason for the surge, which saw S$176,386 collected during the period.

There was also a 74 per cent increase in donations collected during the Chinese New Year period last year from the previous year.

Giving.sg was launched in December last year, created from the merging of the SG Cares and SG Gives portals, which will shut down on March 31, 2016. The portal allows users to make donations, or volunteer or raise funds for various causes. It currently houses 376 non-profit outfits, 195 informal groups and corporate organisations, and 74,000 over registered users.
