Drowning the cause of NUS student’s death in Kelantan

SINGAPORE — Malaysian police said a post-mortem has been carried out on the National University of Singapore (NUS) undergraduate who died while trekking in Kelantan.
Drowning has been recorded as the cause of 23-year-old Singaporean Lee Jun Jie’s death.
He is believed to have fallen off a cliff while watching the sunset during a camping trip with 22 others that started on Saturday (Dec 28).
Among other injuries, Lee also suffered a fracture on the left part of his skull.
The incident last Saturday took place at Gunung Stong, a mountain known for its waterfalls.
Search and rescue operations had to be delayed due to darkness and slippery conditions, and rescuers had to use a pulley system to retrieve Lee’s body.
One company which organises outdoor adventure trips said it usually does not plan trips to Gunung Stong during the monsoon season, which stretches from October to February.
Mr Wong Yuen Lik, founder of X-Trekkers Adventure Consultant, said: “If we do such programmes, we will avoid campsites beside the waterfall. We’ll stay as far as possible from the water source because of flash floods.” CHANNEL NEWSASIA
