SINGAPORE — A man and a woman have been arrested for allegedly misusing boarding passes to buy an Apple iPhone 7 at Changi Airport’s transit area last week, said the police in a Facebook post on Thursday (Sept 22).

Preliminary investigations revealed that both suspects had no intention to leave Singapore.

Investigations into the duo’s actions are in progress.

The police reiterated that the transit areas of Changi Airport are gazetted as Protected Places and all passengers who enter the transit hall with a boarding pass should only be there to travel to their next destination.

Those who abuse a boarding pass to enter the transit areas, with no intention to fly to their next destination, are liable to have committed an offence under the Protected Areas and Protected Places Act, they said.

Since January, 15 people have been arrested in connection with offences under the Protected Areas and Protected Places Act.

The offender could be prosecuted in court and could also be fined S$1,000 and/or jailed two years.

Previously, the police have also warned against the use of boarding passes to enter transit areas at Changi Airport to meet friends or catch a glimpse of their favourite celebrities.
