SINGAPORE – An innovative concept to stand up to sexual violence by two young creatives won the Republic’s first-ever gold at the Cannes Young Lions Cyber competition in France, beating 50 other teams from around the world.

Given just 24 hours to turn around an online advertising campaign, junior art director Christine Lim and junior copywriter Joanna Ortega of advertising agency DDB Singapore came up with the idea of having a button called ‘Break the silence’, similar to Facebook’s ‘Report a problem’ button. Clicking the ‘Break the silence’ button will allow women to anonymously report sexual violence on social media.

A team from the United Kingdom took the silver, while a Brazilian team got the bronze.

This is not the first win for the creative pair; two months ago, they won the Mediacorp Young Lions Cyber Competition.

“It is a huge honour for the creative industry in Singapore and we are immensely proud of these young talents,” said Ms Christina Chua, head of marketing and sales planning at Mediacorp. Mediacorp is the official country representative of the Lions Festival, an international advertising festival, and as such was a sponsor of the team.

“The experience of competing against the best was an invaluable opportunity to grow and as the next generation of industry superstars, they will surely be an inspiration to many,” she said.

The Young Lions Cyber Competition was part of the 63th annual Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity 2016.
