SINGAPORE — A fire raged at a processing plant in Joo Koon early Wednesday morning (June 15), leading to a firefighting operation that lasted more than an hour.

By the time the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) arrived on the scene at 6 Joo Koon Circle (at 5.40am), the fire had taken up a large area measuring 20m by 20m, said the SCDF.

Firefighters surrounded the area with eight water jets including an aerial monitor and prevented the fire from spreading. The fire was put out at around 7am, and damping down operations are currently in progress.

On its Facebook page, the SCDF said “damping down” is a term popularly used by SCDF firefighters to describe the application of water to wet burnt surfaces immediately after the fire is put out.

“This is to prevent any potential rekindle of fire from the hot burnt surfaces,” it added.

No injuries were reported in the fire incident.
