Equestrian ballet
There was plenty of horsing around along Bayfront Avenue when the venue known as Under The White Theatre Tent played host to the opening show of Cavalia last night. Conceived by Normand Latourelle, a co-founder of Cirque du Soleil, the show, dubbed an “equestrian ballet”, features acrobats, aerialists, stunt riders and 50 equine performers, which arrived here just over a week ago from Brussels. “It’s not just a dance show; it’s a story about love and life, and we hope the audience can take away their interpretations of that,” Mr Latourelle told TODAY. Unlike traditional horse shows, Cavalia’s stage features a 50m-wide stage to allow the horses space to gallop at full speed while their human counterparts perform riding stunts.
