SINGAPORE — The High Court yesterday gave the green light for the parents, wife and former bailor of ex-tour guide Yang Yin to be added as defendants in the lawsuit brought against Yang by the niece of wealthy widow Chung Khin Chun.

The niece, Madam Hedy Mok, is suing Yang for loss and damages arising from his alleged breach of duties under Mdm Chung’s Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA).

Yang, a Chinese national, met Mdm Chung in 2008 in China and moved into her bungalow here the following year. Under her 2012 LPA, a legal document, Yang was given control over her assets. But the LPA was recently revoked by the Office of the Public Guardian, after the Family Justice Courts ruled that Mdm Chung had the mental capacity to revoke it.

Mdm Mok’s lawyer, Mr Peter Doraisamy, said he will be filing an amended statement of claim for this case. Yang’s wife Weng Yandan, his parents and former bailor Ong Gek Lie are alleged to have knowingly received funds misappropriated from Mdm Chung’s estate.

Separately, Yang is also facing 334 charges. He faces 331 charges for falsifying the accounts of his company and had three new charges for immigration offences brought against him on Dec 4. NEO CHAI CHIN
