SINGAPORE — Friends of the two young SMRT staff killed in Tuesday’s (March 22) fatal accident near the Pasir Ris station have taken to social media to express their condolences to the duo’s family.

Mr Nasrulhudin Najumudin, 26, and Mr Muhammad Asyraf Ahmad Buhari, 24, were killed by an oncoming train at about 11.10am. They were part of a team of 15 who had been investigating a “reported alarm from a condition monitoring device for signalling equipment”, according to the transport operator.

In a Facebook post, Ms Andreas Chua wrote: “Just got news that one of my secondary school mates just passed away. Nas Rul, we may not be very close, but I can remember so clearly the times we did speak to each other.”

Mr Nasrulhudin identified himself as “Nas Rul” on his Facebook account. The former Temasek Polytechnic student’s last public update was on September 16 2015 when he changed his profile photo.

Another friend of Mr Nasrulhudin, who goes by the user name “Abg Jebat” on Facebook, wrote: “It really breaks my heart to hear the news earlier today. I’ve lost a laughing brother Nas Rul. The bond that we’ve built is never to be forgotten.”

Mr Ijam Shim also took to Facebook to pay tribute to his friend Mr Muhammad Asyraf, who identified himself as Asyraf Ahmad on the social network.

“Today you left us here, without a farewell leaving behind just memories,” wrote Mr Ijam. “I wish you had given me the chance to take one last glance on you, face filled with love before you make your way. RIP bro Asyraf Ahmad.”

Mr Nasrulhudin and Mr Muhammad Asyraf were new employees who joined SMRT only in January. The two Singaporeans were undergoing on-the-job training when the accident happened.
