Some 13,000 people from more than 2,800 families thronged the Civic District early yesterday morning for the annual Families for Life event. The dark clouds overhead did not dampen the crowd’s spirits as they participated in a mass walk.

Some had a picnic, while others played games or worked out. The event, which encourages families to spend quality time together and strengthen bonds, was held in conjunction with Car-Free Sunday SG this month.

Social and Family Development Minister Tan Chuan-Jin said the response was encouraging.

“I think it’s also the novelty of having an area where you don’t normally get the chance to walk around on the roads like your grandfather’s road kind of thing, and I think a lot of people are just taking the opportunity to be here,” he said. PHOTO: WEE TECK HIAN
