SINGAPORE — Family and close friends bade farewell to late politician Chua Sian Chin at the Church of St Teresa, Kampong Bahru Road, today (March 4).
Those who spoke at the funeral service recalled Chua’s sincerity, kindness and of his devotion to his family.
Former top-ranking civil servant JY Pillay was one of those who spoke at Chua’s service, recalling fondly their university days together. Mr Pillay said Chua, who served as minister for health, home affairs and education, was reserved but had a keen interest in current affairs from a young age.
Mr Lee Suan Yew, brother of former Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, also gave a moving eulogy of his close friend, calling him intelligent, dependable and sincere. He said Chua promoted bilingualism, improved public health and strengthened the penal codes during his time in government.
Chua died of heart failure last Wednesday. He was 81. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
