Fibre service restored after some 14 hours of network outage: NetLink Trust

SINGAPORE — About 14 hours after a network outage hit hundreds of subscribers of fibre broadband, television and phone services yesterday (June 11), the Republic’s fibre broadband network provider, NetLink Trust, said the fibre service in the affected areas had been restored by 12.40am.

“We had deployed all available resources to ensure prompt and speedy restoration works. We would like to thank the affected users for their understanding and patience in this matter,” said the network provider’s CEO, Mr Ng Yong Hwee.

The network outage struck after a Land Transport Authority (LTA) contractor damaged fibre optic cables while carrying out piling work at the Thomson-East Coast Line’s Great World Station worksite. The company said yesterday that it was alerted of the outage at about 10.40am. More than 500 subscribers were affected, it added.

The affected subscribers were from various telcos — Singtel, StarHub, M1 and MyRepublic — and services were reportedly disrupted in areas including Orchard, Outram, Cantonment Road, Marina Bay. Bukit Merah, Bukit Panjang, Tiong Bahru, Tanjong Pagar and Woodlands.

NetLink Trust said individuals in the affected areas can call their respective Internet Service Providers, should there be further enquiries.
