SINGAPORE — A 52-year-old Chinese man has died from dengue, the fifth local dengue death case this year.
He lived at Corporation Walk, a dengue cluster of three cases which closed on July 17 and two breeding habitats were found last month, said the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the National Environment Agency (NEA) in a joint statement today (Aug 13).
The man was first seen at Jurong Polytechnic on June 29 with a two-day history of fever, and returned to the polyclinic on July 4 as he was still having a fever.
He was then referred to the National University Hospital emergency department and was admitted to the Medical Intensive Care Unit on the same day. He was diagnosed with Dengue Shock Syndrome.
“The patient’s condition improved transiently after dialysis and supportive therapy but he remained critically ill with low blood counts,” said the MOH and NEA.
The patient’s condition deteriorated after he developed pneumonia with septic shock on Sunday and he died today.
