Fire breaks at Boon Lay warehouse, no injuries reported

SINGAPORE — A fire about the size of a football field broke out at a warehouse at 6 Fan Yoong Road early this morning (Oct 3).

The warehouse, located near Jalan Boon Lay, deals with plastic materials.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to the fire at 2.58am, and dispatched five fire engines, three red rhinos, nine support vehicles, an ambulance and an Unmanned Firefighting Machine to the scene within eight minutes. In total, about 60 firefighters were involved in the operation.

According to the SCDF, at the height of the operation, firefighters encircled the factory with a total of 12 water jets, and used foam in selected areas to battle the blaze.

The fire was brought under control within an hour and extinguished at about 7am.

Four workers evacuated themselves from the premises before the SCDF arrived. No injuries were reported.

The SCDF is currently carrying out damping down operations.
