SINGAPORE – A fire broke out at a construction site along Choa Chu Kang Avenue 1 this morning (June 11).

Despite attempts by some workers to put out the fire at the three-story dormitory inside the construction site using fire hosereels and fire extinguishers, the fire was already well-alight when the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) arrived at 9.35am – six minutes after it received a call on the fire.

When firefighting, SCDF firefighters faced challenges with the uneven terrain and thick black smoke. Three of the firefighters dispatched sustained injuries and were conveyed to the National University Hospital (NUH) in a conscious state.

The fire was extinguished within an hour after the firefighters used five handheld water jets and a water monitor from an aerial vehicle during the firefighting operation.

No worker at the site suffered injuries, SCDF told TODAY.

Investigation on the cause of the fire is ongoing. JEAN KHOO
