Five new bus services to be rolled out in eastern, western S’pore

Residents in Bukit Batok, Changi, Jurong East, Kallang and West Coast can soon look forward to new bus services.

Residents in Bukit Batok, Changi, Jurong East, Kallang and West Coast can soon look forward to new bus services.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said yesterday that five new bus services would be rolled out in these areas in the coming months.

Details are being worked out and more information will be provided later, added the LTA.

The additional bus services were welcomed by the areas’ Members of Parliament whom TODAY spoke to. These services will connect residents to new developments in the estates and improve connectivity with MRT stations and bus interchanges.

Parliamentary Secretary for Social and Family Development Low Yen Ling, whose constituency includes Bukit Batok, cited new developments along Hillview Avenue and the Bukit Gombak Community Club, which is under construction.

In particular, she welcomed better connectivity for residents between the Hillview area and Bukit Gombak neighbourhood centre.

Moulmein-Kallang GRC MP Edwin Tong said the town council that he chairs had been consulting the LTA on improving bus services in Kallang. Among other things, having more bus services to connect the precinct’s residents — most of whom take the bus to work — to Kallang MRT Station was discussed, said Mr Tong.
