SINGAPORE — Residents in Ang Mo Kio, Yishun, Clementi and Woodlands can look forward to more bus options with the introduction of five new Peak Period Short Services (PPSS) .

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced today (Oct 14) that two private bus operators have been awarded contracts to operate five such services for the next two years. The services will be launched progressively from the end of 2014.

These buses will duplicate certain existing feeder bus routes to connect commuters to bus interchanges and MRT stations. According to a statement by the LTA, “these additional services will help to alleviate crowding, reduce waiting times and improve reliability of feeder bus services during peak hours”.

All five services will charge distance-based fares and will make at least five trips an hour during weekday morning and evening peak periods, excluding public holidays. This is the third batch of PPSS awarded by the LTA, bringing the total number of PPSS to 14.

The LTA also said that more trips may be added depending on the demand for these services.
