SINGAPORE — Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong have wished former President S R Nathan well, with Mr Goh saying that Mr Nathan looked alert and “clear-headed” when he visited him.

Mr Nathan, 90, suffered a stroke last week. His family said today (April 23) that he was recovering well and was undergoing therapy at the Singapore General Hospital.

In a Facebook post today, Mr Lee said he and his wife, Ms Ho Ching, visited Mr Nathan in hospital last Friday.

“We were glad to see him sitting up and in good spirits. He has always been a fighter. Hope he continues to recover well,” Mr Lee said.

Mr Goh, who also posted on Facebook today, said he had also visited Mr Nathan and was happy to find him “alert, clear-headed and able to speak normally”. “He was also able to move his hands freely. He is making good recovery from his stroke and should be discharged soon.

“Best wishes, Nathan,” Mr Goh added.
