SINGAPORE — Companies that have played a significant role in Singapore’s economic growth will receive tribute through two SG50 initiatives spearheaded by several government agencies.

The agencies — SPRING Singapore, Economic Development Board (EDB) International Enterprise (IE) Singapore and National Library Board (NLB) — have teamed up to launch two projects: “50 Schools, 50 SMES” and “Local Champions, Global Leaders”.

The former will see secondary school students from 50 schools linked up with 50 companies to learn about their stories. The students will then produce articles which will be showcased on Singapore Infopedia and Wikipedia in March next year.

The second initiative is a national level competition open to local university and polytechnic students. Participants are required to present the stories of local industry champions and multinational companies in a medium of their choice.

Mr Yeoh Keat Chuan, managing director of EDB, said: “Over the past 50 years, companies have played significant roles in developing Singapore’s economy and in creating good jobs for Singaporeans. As we look back on Singapore’s journey, it is important that we celebrate how companies, local and from all over the world, have contributed to improving the lives of Singaporeans and the success of Singapore.”

Mr Ted Tan, deputy chief executive of SPRING Singapore, said: “By sharing memories and reflecting on the challenges and pioneering spirit, we wish to co-create a narrative for the hands that built Singapore, and that will continue to contribute towards the progress of our nation.”
