St James Power Station murder: Fourth man charged

SINGAPORE — A 22-year-old man was charged in court on Thursday (March 16) over the St James Power Station murder last Sunday — the fourth suspect to be charged over the case.

Muhammad Faizal Jamal joins three co-accused — Shawalludin Sa’adon, 26; Muhammad Khalid Kamarudin, 21; and Muhammad Hisham Hassan, 27 — who were charged earlier this week.

A district court granted the police’s request to remand Faizal for one week to assist with further investigations. All four will appear in court again on April 21. Meanwhile, another unnamed suspect who was arrested by the police on Monday in connection with the case is still under police investigation.

The four suspects are accused of killing Satheesh Kumar Manogaran, 35, between 5.45am and 6am at St James Power Station, an entertainment outlet along Sentosa Gateway. 

He was found with stab wounds to his head and back, and was pronounced dead at Singapore General Hospital (SGH).

If convicted, the accused persons will be sent to the gallows.

On Sunday night, the police said their preliminary investigations suggest that Satheesh’s death arose from a dispute he had with a St James Power Station employee. The identity of the employee was not disclosed in court documents but Shawalludin worked as a part-time waiter at Postbar, one of the bars at St James Power Station, before he was arrested.

Satheesh’s body was found by police officers patrolling the area. Another 28-year-old man was also found with head injuries and is currently warded at SGH.
