SINGAPORE — Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean said the recent haze episode which hit Singapore at record high levels is a timely reminder about the importance of being prepared to deal with different emergency situations.
Speaking at a community emergency preparedness event on Saturday morning, Mr Teo highlighted examples of kind Singaporeans who went around distributing masks and checking on the elderly.
He was also heartened by the act of Singaporeans who offered to open up their homes with air-conditioned rooms for others to use.
Mr Teo said he is happy to see greater resolve on reducing the hotspots in the Riau province. He hoped that these efforts will continue for the rest of the dry season, be sustained and institutionalised for the future. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
