Hazy conditions likely to persist: NEA

SINGAPORE – The hazy conditions experienced yesterday (Oct 11) are expected to persist through today, said the National Environment Agency (NEA) in a haze situation update this morning.

The NEA explained that the conditions were due to prevailing winds blowing in from surrounding regions.

In the latest reading at 1pm, the three-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) reading was in moderate range at 77. Earlier today, the reading was in the unhealthy range, registering 105 at 1am and reaching a high of 108 at 2am before falling back into the moderate range at 6am.

The overall 24-hour PSI current stands at 89-103 at 12pm.

“The overall 24-hr PSI for Singapore is expected to fluctuate between the high-end of the moderate range and the low-end of the unhealthy range,” the statement said.

A PSI reading of 101 to 200 falls within the unhealthy range, while a 51 to 100 reading is considered moderate.

NEA’s forecast of the weather said thundery showers are expected in the afternoon for Singapore.

Yesterday the three-hour PSI reading entered into the unhealthy range, with the highest reading of 106 at 2pm. The reading dropped out of the unhealthy range at 5pm, but remained in the high end of the moderate range.
