If you hear gunfire next week, don’t be alarmed
SINGAPORE — There will be military exercises conducted next week in various locations across the island, the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) said today (Aug 7).
The exercises begin at 8am on Monday, Aug 12, and conclude at 8am on Aug 19. Blanks and thunderflashes will be used and the public is advised to not be alarmed and to keep clear of the areas.
In the north, exercises will be held in Seletar, Lentor, Mandai, Jalan Kwok Min (off Mandai Road), Kranji, Sembawang and Marsiling.
In the west, the areas are Jalan Bahar, Neo Tiew, Lim Chu Kang, Tuas, Upper Jurong, Hong Kah and Ama Keng.
In the east, Bedok Jetty will be used for the exercises.
Live firing exercises will also be held during this week at the Pasir Laba (SAFTI) Live Firing Area. Sea vessels and crafts sailing through the western Johor Straits, between the Causeway and the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link at Tuas, are advised to keep within the 75m navigable sea lane and not to stray into the boundary of the live firing area.
Live ammunition and flares will be used.
In the south, the islands of Pulau Sudong, Pulau Senang and Pulau Pawai are proclaimed manoeuvring and firing grounds and the public is advised to keep clear of these islands.
The public is also advised to stay clear of the prohibited waters off Changi Naval Base in the east and Tuas Naval Base in the west.
