SINGAPORE — A 60-year-old man has been arrested for assaulting, using criminal force, and using abusive language against three National Environmental Agency (NEA) enforcement officers along Arumugam Road.
The suspect was selling fruits without any valid licence when he was approached by the three NEA enforcement officers on Monday (June 19) at about 3.30pm.
The suspect tried to flee but was stopped. He then punched and head-butted the first officer, and spat on the second officer, the police said in a statement on Tuesday.
The third officer was also injured when the suspect slammed the door of his vehicle against the third officer's hand.
Throughout the tussle, the accused hurled vulgarities at the three officers. The suspect was subsequently arrested by police officers.
The suspect will be charged in court on Wednesday with the offence of using criminal force against a public servant. Offenders may be jailed up to four years, or face a fine, or both.
