ITE College East suspends student seen attacking another in viral video

SINGAPORE — ITE College East has suspended a student seen kicking and punching another in a video that has gone viral on social media.

SINGAPORE — ITE College East has suspended a student seen kicking and punching another in a video that has gone viral on social media. 

The police confirmed that a report has been lodged and investigations are in progress.

When contacted, the school confirmed the incident and said the assault took place in one of its toilets last Wednesday (Feb 8). “ITE takes a serious view of the matter, and does not condone such acts. ITE College East will cooperate with police investigations,” the school’s principal Dr Yek Tiew Ming said in a statement.

“The assailant has been suspended. The victim has consulted a doctor, and we are rendering our assistance to him,” Dr Yek added.

The video, posted by Facebook user Soniya Raj at about 10am yesterday, garnered close to 14,000 shares and 217,000 views as at 1.50pm.

The 75-second clip showed a student, clad in black, kicking and raining blows on a smaller-built student in a corner of a toilet. 

A bystander watching the assault could be heard laughing around the 15-second mark of the video. It also showed the assailant slapping the victim before walking off with a group of friends at the end of the video.
