SINGAPORE — Singapore’s Institute of Technical Education (ITE) is collaborating with four companies to improve the quality of health, safety, environment and quality (HSEQ) skills among their students and staff.

A new integrated HSEQ assurance centre will be set up at ITE College West, where engineering students will be trained on the importance of HSEQ related policies, systems and processes. ITE said this is the first multi-party collaboration of its kind in Singapore to develop HSEQ-ready manpower.

At a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing today (Oct 31), Endress+Hauser (SEA), Hexcel Solutions, Non-Destructive Testing Society Singapore, and Rotary Engineering agreed to come onboard to sponsor key facilities and equipment for an authentic learning environment.

Students will also be able to learn from industry experts through industry attachments, forums and workshops.

A series of training programmes have been planned, such as, the Construction Safety Orientation Course (CSOC) incorporating Working At Height (WAH), Metalworking Safety Orientation Course (MSOC), Workplace Safety & Health (WSH) Management, and Environmental Management. For some courses, companies will provide ITE with the training syllabuses and reference materials.

ITE director and CEO Mr Bruce Poh said: “Having a one-stop HSEQ Centre will value-add to students’ learning and help them understand how these areas are intertwined to help organisations deliver high quality products and services. We are glad that four industry partners are committed towards supporting our efforts in developing HSEQ-trained manpower.”
