SINGAPORE – A branch of the Jack’s Place steakhouse at Paya Lebar Square has been suspended by the National Environment Agency (NEA) for a period of two weeks, according to a suspension notice issued by the agency on Wednesday (May 3).

The steakhouse had failed to keep the restaurant free from cockroach infestation, which resulted in six demerit points being meted out.

According to NEA, the suspension was a result of the licensee accumulating 12 demerit points over the last 12 months and has been fined a total of S$800.

Jack’s Place had also accumulated a further six points for failing to register an assistant.

NEA said that depending on past records, a licensee who accumulates 12 or more demerit points during a 12-month period may have his licence suspended for a period of either two or four weeks, or revoked.

All food handlers working in the suspended premises would also be required to attend and pass the Basic Food Hygiene Course again, before they can resume work as food handlers.

The suspension period is from May 3 to May 16.
