SINGAPORE – Singapore’s Olympic hero Joseph Schooling is back in Singapore for a week-long visit, where a packed schedule of public appearances awaits the country’s favourite son.

The 21-year-old swimmer, who is a student at the University of Texas in the United States, touched down at Changi Airport on Friday morning (Nov 18), where he was received by his parents Colin and May.

The family will have a quiet day together, before a series of public events – many geared towards helping charities and the less fortunate – kick off from Saturday onwards.

The highlights of the week will see Schooling visit the Istana with Team Singapore Olympians and Paralympians for a tea reception with Singapore President Tony Tan Keng Yam on Saturday afternoon.

On Sunday, he will be at Ngee Ann City’s Kinokuniya book store for a book signing for his new volume – Hello, My Name Is Joseph Schooling.

A day later, he will be receiving a honorary membership from the Singapore Island Country Club – the place where he first met American swim great Michael Phelps as a child.

On Tuesday, he will be the star at the Singapore Swimming Association golf fund-raiser, before attending on Wednesday a cocktail reception at the Brazilian Embassy with the Republic’s Paralyampian medallists Yip Pin Xiu and Theresa Goh.

Schooling will attend the Singapore National Olympic Council’s Multi-Million Dollars Award Programme (MAP) Presentation & Appreciation Dinner on Thursday, before rounding up his week next Friday by receiving a honorary membership from the Chinese Swimming Club.
