SINGAPORE – The People’s Action Party (PAP) has co-opted Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Manpower Josephine Teo to its Central Executive Committee (CEC).

In a statement released on Wednesday night (Oct 11), Mr Chan Chun Sing, the party’s organising secretary and chairman of the HQ Exco, also said Speaker of Parliament Tan Chuan-Jin has been appointed as the new chair of the PAP Seniors Group, PAP.SG.

Ms Teo and Mr Tan replace Mdm Halimah Yacob, who resigned from the CEC and as chairperson of PAP.SG on Aug 7 to contest Singapore’s first reserved presidential election.

Mdm Halimah was subsequently elected as President on Sept 13.

Mr Chan added that the CEC would “like to place on record the Party’s appreciation to Mdm Halimah for her service to the Party.”
Separately, the CEC also accepted Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong’s request to step down as advisor to PAP.SG.
“The Party would like to thank Comrade Goh for his invaluable guidance and support for PAP.SG in its formative years,” said Mr Chan.
