Jurong Country Club sets up hotline to address members' concerns

SINGAPORE — Still reeling from yesterday’s (May 11) sudden announcement that the Jurong Country Club has to make way for the high speed rail terminus, the club’s management said today that it is seeking a meeting with the authorities by the end of the week.

A hotline has been set up to address members’ concerns. “We’ve been receiving quite a number of calls since this morning,” said Ms Christina Ling, the club’s marketing communications manager. While she was unable to give an estimate of the number of queries received, she said that those who called were largely concerned about the amount of compensation they would get.

The club first received notice of the acquisition on Monday morning, after which its management convened a meeting. A notice was put up at the main lobby at around 2pm, and members were informed of the news via text message, email, or over the phone. Members were told that they would be informed of further developments, after the meeting with the authorities

A task force — comprising representatives from the general committee and the management — was appointed to work with the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) on the acquisition, said Ms Ling. The 40-year-old club has about 2,700 members.
