MALAYSIA — The Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (KL-SG HSR) will be served by four high speed trains per hour once it commences operations in 2026.

MyHSR Corp Sdn Bhd director of the commercial division Tonny Yeap said that two high speed trains will offer an express service between two stations – the Bandar Malaysia terminal in Kuala Lumpur and the Jurong East terminal in Singapore.

“The other two trains will cater to the domestic service, with in-between intermediary stop at seven stations in Malaysia, namely Bandar Malaysia, Bangi-Putrajaya, Seremban, Melaka, Muar, Batu Pahat and Iskandar Puteri,” he said.

Mr Yeap added that both services are expected to reduce travel time between the two countries to less than two hours, with the trains moving at 350km per hour.

“Travel time between Kuala Lumpur and Seremban will also be reduced to only 25 minutes, compared to 55 minutes by car today.

“The project will definitely provide Negri Sembilan folks the opportunity to travel comfortably, conveniently and safely on the HSR to other cities such as Kuala Lumpur, Bangi and Putrajaya, Melaka, Muar, Batu Pahat, Iskandar Puteri and Singapore,” he said.

Mr Yeap added that Negri Sembilan will have 52km of HSR alignment out of the total estimated alignment length of 328km in Malaysia; and a station which is expected to be located about 15km from Seremban old town and 5km from the KTM’s Labu station.

“The design of the station combines elements of green beauty, futuristic development and the heritage of the Sri Menanti Palace which served as (the residence of) the Royal family of Negri Sembilan,” he said at a media briefing on the progress of the project here.

Also present was MyHSR director of public delivery, Mr Mark Loader.

Mr Loader said the project has received overwhelming support from Negri Sembilan folk, with 96 per cent of respondents to a survey providing positive feedback on the project, via the Public Inspection exercise which began on Nov 1.

“The state has recorded the second-highest positive support for the project after Johor. We are encouraged by this strong support from the community here,” he said.

Six permanent and temporary Public Inspection booths have been situated throughout the state during the Public Inspection period, which will end on Jan 31 next year.

“The state’s community will be able to view information about the KL-SG HSR project, the planned alignment, locations of the seven Malaysian HSR stations, typical station features and layout, railway technical data, and the Socio-economic Development Programme (SEDP), as well as land acquisition plans at the booth,” he added.

Mr Loader said that land acquisition is expected to begin by the middle of next year. NEW STRAITS TIMES
