SINGAPORE — City Harvest Church (CHC) founder Kong Hee has made his first public comments on the outcome of a 140-day trial, which saw Kong and five other church leaders found guilty yesterday (Oct 21) of misappropriating S$50.6 million of church funds.

In a Facebook post today, Kong said it was a difficult time for him and his family, just as it was for the five others who were convicted.

“As was the case throughout these past three years of court trial, and the earlier two years of investigation, I have put my faith and my all in God, and trust that whatever the outcome, He will use it for good in His time and in His way,” he said, quoting a verse from the Bible.

Kong Hee, who did not speak to the media outside the courtroom yesterday, thanked his followers and supporters for keeping his family “continually assured and strengthened by the love and support shown” throughout the trial period, and asked them to keep praying for him and others involved in the trial, as well as their familes and the church congregation.

“The days and steps ahead are challenging, but with God’s grace and love, I have no fear,” he said.

Kong Hee, his deputy Tan Ye Peng, former church accountant Serina Wee, former church finance manager Sharon Tan, former investment manager Chew Eng Han and former CHC board member John Lam were convicted yesterday of three to 10 charges each and are all currently out on bail ranging from S$750,000 and S$1 million each.

CHC management yesterday expressed its disappointment at the trial outcome and urged the congregation to stay united and move forward from the episode.
