Labour Movement appoints new Assistant Secretaries-General

SINGAPORE — New Assistant Secretaries-General (ASG) have been appointed following the proposal of Secretary-General Lim Swee Say to strengthen the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) Secretariat in driving key labour movement priorities forward, the national confederation said today (Jan 8).

The four new ASG are Mr Patrick Tay Teck Guan, Mr Yeo Guat Kwang, Mr Ang Hin Kee and Mr Zainal Sapari. The NTUC Secretariat will be comprised of Deputy Secretary-General Heng Chee How, existing ASG Ms Cham Hui Fong and the four newly-appointed ASG.

The NTUC said in its release today that the newly-appointed ASG will join the NTUC Secretariat with effect from Feb 1 and will sustain broad-based real wage increases by making the Progressive Wage Model more prevalent, improving the jobs, wages and progression paths of low-wage workers, widening outreach to more professionals, managers and executives (PMEs), and broadening national tripartism, making it more pervasive in key sectors of the economy and strengthening labour leadership.

The move follows the NTUC Central Committee’s concluding its Work Plan workshop, which was convened to translate the key thrusts identified at the NTUC Ordinary Delegates’ Conference, held in October last year, into action plans to be implemented this year and next.

The key priorities identified at the conference will be addressed by the members of the NTUC Secretariat:

DSG Heng Chee How (labour leadership, mature workers)

ASG Cham Hui Fong (Tripartism, Progressive Wage Model)

ASG Patrick Tay Teck Guan (PMEs, legal services)

ASG Yeo Guat Kwang (migrant workers, SME outreach)

ASG Ang Hin Kee (freelancers and self-employed)

ASG Zainal Sapari (low-wage workers, Care and Share)
