SINGAPORE — At least nine police reports have been lodged since last week over bogus Grab and Uber packages.

Victims were cheated into purchasing private car hire promotional packages from Grab or Uber, police said on Wednesday (Feb 22) in a Facebook post.

The total amount cheated is at least $7,700.

According to police, the victims were introduced to the cheap promotional packages through their friends who had come across advertisements.

The victims were then asked to contact the seller via Whatsapp, following which, they were instructed to transfer money to bank accounts to purchase the packages.

However, after making payments, victims were not able to redeem the rides and the sellers became uncontactable.

“The Police would like to advise members of the public to purchase rides only from the official sources and to always exercise caution when purchasing items at prices that sound too good to be true,” the post read.

The police also advised the public to call the anti-scam helpline at 1800 722 6688 or visit https://www.scamalert.sg.
