SINGAPORE - Library@orchard is back with a brand new user experience and concept after a seven-year wait.

National Library Board (NLB) has worked closely with 30 students and lecturers from Singapore Polytechnic to develop new features like the Book Trees, where users can browse integrated displays that feature selected books, artworks, videos and other related inspiring design material and Cocoon, where users can do creative thinking and learning comfortably in a pod-inspired seating.

Themed and designed around “Design is for Everyone”, library users can explore a variety of ways to learn more about the different facets of design through the library’s specially crafted spaces, curated collection and themed programmes.

It currently carries the largest public collection on design and applied arts, magazines, fiction books and audio-visual materials in four languages.

This first ever two-storey public library in a shopping mall was launched by Minister for Communications and Information, Dr Yaacob Ibrahim this morning (Oct 23) at Orchard Gateway.

Speaking at the launch, he said, “The library@orchard is what I call our next-generation library. With exciting interactive features and new collaborative spaces, it inspires people to learn and explore new ideas.”
