SINGAPORE — Real-time traffic information will now be easier to view on Singapore roads.

New, enhanced Expressway Motoring Advisory System (EMAS) signboards that can display both text and graphical messages in several colours have been installed along the Central Expressway (CTE) and the East Coast Parkway (ECP), the Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced today (Oct 29).

Travel-time information on boards before entry points of the CTE and ECP will be colour-coded to improve readability and “help motorists make more informed travel decisions”, the LTA said.

For example, travel that takes less than half of normal travel time is colour-coded green. While trips that take between 50 to 125 per cent of travel time will be coded yellow and those expected to take more than 125 per cent normal travel time is coded red.

As part of the LTA’s upgrading works, other expressways will also be getting these enhanced signboards which will be “progressively implemented”. According to the LTA, they are expected to be ready by 2017.

Additionally, the LTA has installed 70 new electronic signboards along four major arterial roads, including Upper Jurong Road to Commonwealth Avenue, Geylang Road to Upper Changi Road East and Mountbatten Road to Xilin Avenue.

Both types of signboards will come into operation from Nov 2 onwards, the LTA said.
