SINGAPORE — The Land Transport Authority (LTA) will be calling a tender to install and operate Closed Circuit Television cameras (CCTVs) at 60 more locations. When completed in mid-2017, CCTVs will be used to enforce against illegal parking at a total of 130 locations in Singapore, the LTA said today (April 8).

The 60 new locations are in addition to 40 more locations that will have CCTVs by April 15, and 30 locations that had CCTVs installed last year, the LTA said in a statement.

Improved traffic flow, improved road safety, and fewer cases of obstructions on the roads were observed at locations where CCTV cameras were implemented since April last year, according to the LTA. These locations include Beach Road, Bishan, Pasir Panjang Road and River Valley Road. Additionally, with most locations with CCTVs installed being plied by many public buses, bus commuters have also benefited from improved traffic conditions, the LTA said.

To identify a CCTV monitoring zone, the LTA has painted lamp posts and sign posts within the zones with a bright orange vertical strip. “No Waiting” signs have also been installed at passenger pick-up points that have CCTV cameras, such as those near Bishan and Clementi MRT stations.
