M1 introduces new SIM-only plans in an already crowded market

SINGAPORE — Telco M1 has upped the ante and expanded its range of offerings for SIM-only plans, including packages that provide handset subsidies for any device.

“The new mySIMe plans meet consumers’ growing data needs for social networking and video and music streaming services on the move, which they can now enjoy with a subsidised handset,” M1 said in a press statement on Thursday (Oct 12).

The four new plans start from the mySIMe 40 with 5GB data, 100 minutes of voice calls and 100 SMS for S$40 a month, to the mySIMe 118 which offers unlimited data, voice calls and SMS, for S$118.

Customers will need to sign a two year contract with these plans.

M1’s chief marketing officer P Subramaniam said: “Our SIM-only mySIM plans have proven to be popular with our customers. We are now giving them the option to get their favourite smartphone or tablet at a more affordable price with the mySIMe plans.”

In addition, M1 has introduced a mySIMs share plan. This allows customers who are subscribed to the mySIM3 and mySIMe plans to share their data, talktime and SMS bundles with up to two other mySIMs lines. mySIMs is not available for unlimited plans.

mySIMe and mySIMs  customers will be able to use their local data bundles across 56 destinations worldwide from S$10 a month, with M1 Data Passport.

M1’s announcement underscores a highly competitive telco landscape with myriad offerings.

Starhub’s SIM-only plans allow customers to enjoy free unlimited data on weekends. Customers do not have to sign up for contracts, and the plans cost between S$24 and S$119 per month.

Singtel on the other hand, offers two kinds of SIM-only plans. The SIM-only 12-month plans require customers to sign up for a one year contract for its 5GB or 10GB variants. They cost S$20 and S$36.05 respectively. A separate 3GB plan which does not require a contract costs S$20 monthly. 

In addition, Singtel offers packages that are tied to certain handsets. For example, customers who purchase an iPhone 8 Plus with 64GB capacity under the SIM-only 10GB plan would have to pay S$85.40 monthly.

M1’s new two-year mySIMe plans will be available for sign-up or re-contract from Friday at any M1 Shop, distributor, or online at www.m1.com.sg.
