M1 mobile network disruption: SMS, calls affected

SINGAPORE — M1 confirmed a disruption to its mobile phone network this morning (Feb 4), which saw network subscribers in various parts of Singapore unable to send SMSes or make calls via their M1 lines.

M1 has yet to comment on the cause or expected duration of the disruption.

"At about 7am, some M1 customers began experiencing intermittent voice and SMS service access. M1's mobile data services are not affected. We are striving to resolve the issue, and sincerely apologise for the inconvenience to our customers," M1 said in a media statement issued about 10.30am.

TODAY readers on social media, as well as callers to the MediaCorp Hotline (6822 2268), reported that they have been unable to connect to the network in various locations across the island — including Bukit Batok, Serangoon, Old Airport Road, Marine Parade, Tuas, Ang Mo Kio, Woodlands, Hougang and Alexandra — for most of the morning.

However, apparently not all M1 subscribers were affected, with some readers on the West Coast and Buona Vista noting no disruption to their network.

Some customers also reported that, contrary to M1's statement, they have been unable to connect to their mobile data network.

The telco was fined a record S$1.5 million last year for a network outage that affected 250,000 users for three days last January. Last month,  they were fined S$25,000 for not meeting some of the outdoor coverage requirements stipulated by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore.
