SINGAPORE — M1 customers will be able to surf, call and text to their hearts’ content over the long National Day weekend. The telco is embarking on a promotion to mark the country’s SG50 milestone, and announced yesterday that it will offer free voice calls, SMS and MMS messages, and unlimited mobile data — all local usage only — from midnight on Aug 7 to 11.59pm on Aug 10.

“Singapore is widely acknowledged to be one of the world’s most connected societies, and we are proud to be part of this remarkable story for the last 18 years,” said M1 chief marketing officer P Subramaniam.

“As a Singapore company, we want to do our part to mark this milestone celebration, and what better way to do that than allow our customers to freely share their joys and wishes for our nation with one another, on this very special occasion.”

When contacted, Singtel did not have anything specific to announce yet, while StarHub said it will be planning a promotion, the details of which will be announced later.

Its marketing head, Ms Wang Li-Na, said: “To celebrate the momentous occasion of Singapore’s 50th birthday, we have something special planned for our customers during the National Day period.”

M1’s show of contribution for this year’s SG50 celebrations is the latest that will benefit consumers.

For example, before this, SBS Transit and SMRT Corporation had declared that Aug 9 would be a free-ride day on their buses and trains, while Sentosa Development Corporation is offering free entry for all visitors walking onto the island until the year end.
