SINGAPORE — Maintenance works will be carried out on the Sengkang and Punggol Light Rail Transit (LRT) systems every Sunday from Dec 20 to May 8, said SBS Transit (SBST) today (Dec 3).

On the affected days, services will only operate in one loop direction before 5.30pm. This is because power supply on the affected loops’ guideways, which are paths on which the trains moves, will need to be turned off for safety reasons. Normal service will resume after 5.30pm.

Maintenance works may be quite noisy as engineers will be hacking concrete and cutting metal, said SBS Transit. Temporary noise barriers will be put up to reduce noise. “We would like to apologise to commuters and residents in the area for any inconvenience caused,” said SBS Transit in a statement.

Meanwhile the transport operator will also make announcements and progressively put up posters at affected LRT stations to inform commuters of the LRT loop closure.

Maintenance of the guideways is essential to ensure a smooth and comfortable ride for passengers, SBST said, noting that guideways can become bumpy over time due to wear-and-tear.
