Man, 26, arrested for Boon Lay snatch thefts

SINGAPORE — Police have arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with a series of snatch thefts at Boon Lay housing estate.

SINGAPORE — Police have arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with a series of snatch thefts at Boon Lay housing estate.

In a police statement, the unnamed man is alleged to have snatched a purse from an elderly woman on Aug 6 at about 8.40am, which contained her senior citizen EZ link card, keys and about S$45 in cash.

Officers from the Jurong Police Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him on Aug 27 at 6.45pm near Boon Lay Avenue.

Preliminary investigations indicate the suspect was also involved in a similar case at Boon Lay Drive, which was reported on July 5.

The suspect will be charged in Court tomorrow (Aug 29). If convicted, he faces a jail term of at least one year as well as caning.
