Man arrested for allegedly breaking into former workplace to steal cheques
SINGAPORE — A 60-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly breaking into his former workplace and stealing company cheques which he later encashed for S$60,000.
SINGAPORE — A 60-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly breaking into his former workplace and stealing company cheques which he later encashed for S$60,000.
On Monday (June 19), police received a report that a unit located on French Road, near Lavender MRT station, had been broken into and some cheques were missing.
After extensive enquiries, officers from the Central Police Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him along Jalan Sultan on the same day. Preliminary investigations also revealed that the man had forged his ex-employer’s signature to encash cheques amounting to S$60,000.
Investigations against the suspect are ongoing.
For the offence of housebreaking and theft, the suspect could be jailed up to 10 years, if convicted. He could also be jailed up to 15 years for forging cheques, and may also be liable to a fine.
