SINGAPORE – A 35-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly broke into three clinics and stole more than 100 bottles of cough mixture and other medication, such as panadols, sleeping pills and pain killers, as well as cash amounting to S$2,254.

The man is believed to have broken into the clinics along Bedok South Road, Marine Terrace and Bedok North Street 1, said the police last night (Aug 29).

Between Aug 23 and Aug 29, three cases of break-ins were reported.

Officers conducted follow-up investigations and ground enquiries, and they established the suspect’s identity. He was arrested yesterday in the vicinity of Bedok North Road.

A raid was conducted at the suspect’s residence and 66 bottles of cough mixture together with other medications were recovered and seized as case exhibits.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was believed to have gained entry into the clinic through the rear window or the front door, stole the cough mixture before selling it off to various unknown parties.

He will be charged in court today for housebreaking and theft by night. If convicted, he faces a jail term which may extend to 14 years.
