SINGAPORE — A man has been arrested in connection to a murder case at Geylang that took place on Sunday night.

The suspect, 55, was arrested yesterday and investigations are ongoing, the police said.

The deceased, 48, was found at Lorong 8 Geylang outside a coffee shop on Sunday night.

The police were alerted when they received a call at about 9.09pm and arrived at the scene to find the man lying motionless.

He was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at about 10.12pm.

Diners at the coffee shops operating along Lorong 8 Geylang said the deceased had been a regular at several of the eateries for years, and that he was known to be argumentative.

A 50-year-old, who declined to give his name, said: “I’ve seen him before. Like me, he would be here eating and drinking kopi, maybe after work or something ... I’ve never spoken to him before. Never felt the need to.”

Ms Lilian Tan, 26, was working in a nearby coffee shop on Sunday night when she heard a commotion outside the eatery. Walking out to take a look, she saw a crowd around an unconscious man lying on the ground.

“I was very shocked when I saw that the guy was lying there with blood everywhere ... on the roads ... which came from his body I think. Then the police came around 9 plus.”

She added: “When I knocked off from work around midnight, there were still police (staying) behind to talk to people about what happened.” JEAN KHOO
